The landmark Wolcott Hotel in midtown Manhattan will be celebrating its 110th anniversary in 2014. The hotel officially opened on March 1, 1904 as one of NYC’s first transient hotels and to this day embraces a storied history, keeping its original features intact to and evoking what NYC hospitality was and still is. In celebration of this milestone anniversary, from March 1 – March 31, 2014, travelers can book a stay at the hotel for $110 a night for travel throughout 2014.
Two twin bedded room. One queen bed.
The Wolcott Hotel was designed by John H. Duncan, the famed architect of Grant's Tomb. Recently deemed a New York City landmark, the hotel presents guests with beautifully intricate old-world architectural details and décor. Former NYC mayor, Michael Bloomberg issued a special proclamation praising the Wolcott as a reflection of the "grandeur of old New York" personified in its marble staircase, leaded chandeliers and ornate molding.
A triple room Jr. Suite
Past guests have included celebrated authors Mark Twain, Henry Miller and Edith Wharton and famed musician Buddy Holly. In 1904, a nightly rate at the Wolcott Hotel started at $3 for a standard room or $8 for a room with a parlour. At check-in guests were presented with a hairpin, welcome knot of fresh chiffon, and umbrella for rainy NYC days. In addition, the hotel’s 4,000 square foot back ballroom was the dining room in the hotel’s early years, a popular jazz club in the 90s, and now remains one of the hotel’s most stunning attributes. Due to its striking design, it is occasionally utilized for high-profile fashion shoots with major publication such as GQ and Bon Appetite, just to name a few.
The wallet-friendly property is still popular today with travelers looking for pleasant, home-like accommodations in a fantastic location with the perfect point to start and end the day near the city’s top attractions. Guests at The Wolcott Hotel experience classic New York hospitality, with amenities inclusive of complimentary breakfast with a selection of muffins and coffee, concierge services for tickets to local attractions (such as renowned Broadway shows), fitness room, high-speed wireless internet, laundry facility, and an on-site gift shop. Those looking to learn more about the hotel’s storied history can peruse the lobby museum with an array of hotel artifacts.
